Father seeks custody of his 3-year-old sonV

Birmingham readers likely are familiar with Bristol Palin, the daughter of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. It was revealed during her mother’s run for vice president in 2008 that Bristol was pregnant. Her son is now 3-years-old and at the center of what could be a contentious child custody dispute.

The young boy’s father, Levi Johnston, is asking for full or partial custody of the 3-year-old after seeing him on his mother’s reality show, “Bristol Palin: Life’s a Tripp.” Johnston says he is concerned about his son’s behavior and wants to be sure “he is raised the right way.”

Palin currently has primary custody of the couple’s son. Johnston is allowed to visit. Palin has admitted to having a hard time disciplining her son.

It is not clear how this specific case will turn out. However, it shows how difficult child custody cases can be. Because emotions often run high, one parent may use child custody as a way to get back at the other.

However, with all child custody cases, parents must remember that a child remains at the center of the dispute. They should work together to come up with an arrangement that is in the best interests of the child.

Because child custody disputes can be challenging to resolve, parents would be wise to consult with an experienced attorney. An attorney can help parents settle their differences in a timely manner. In the end, a child custody arrangement should be fair for everyone involved. Most importantly, it should provide children with a healthy living environment.
